AssistAlert:
Tropical Storm Opong Approaching Southeast Asia

Tropical Storm Opong is forecast to make landfall over Samar Island early September 26th before crossing over the central Philippines and moving into the South China Sea. The system is expected to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, flooding, and storm surges across the Visayas, Bicol, and southern Luzon regions. Authorities have already suspended maritime transport, canceled flights, and closed schools and offices in several provinces.

Opong is projected to strengthen into a typhoon again around September 27th as it tracks northwest across the South China Sea, passing between Hainan and central Vietnam late September 28th. The storm is then expected to make landfall in Nghe An Province, Vietnam early September 29th before weakening back into a tropical storm as it moves across north-central Vietnam and northeastern Laos. Its passage follows recent damage from Super Typhoon Ragasa, increasing the risk of prolonged flooding and extended transport delays. Travelers should anticipate flight cancellations, port closures, and ongoing delays to mobility and logistics throughout the storm’s path.
