Tropical Storm Danas Impacts Eastern China

Tropical Storm Danas is tracking northward through the East China Sea and is expected to make landfall over Zhejiang Province, China the evening of July 8th. Forecasts indicate the storm will weaken to a tropical depression after landfall and continue moving inland over Fujian Province by July 9th. The storm has already caused widespread damage in Taiwan, where more than 700,000 households lost power, over 300 flights were canceled, and thousands were evacuated.

Authorities in eastern China have suspended train and ferry services in Wenzhou and Taizhou and evacuated more than 1,500 people from remote islands. Heavy rainfall and strong winds could lead to flooding, landslides, and transportation disruptions across eastern provinces. Localized evacuations and delays to air travel, public transit, and port operations are likely.
