Super Typhoon Ragasa Brings Widespread Travel Disruptions

Super Typhoon Ragasa struck northern Philippines on September 22nd, making landfall over Calayan Island with gale-force winds and heavy rainfall. Widespread evacuations as a result of the storm have occurred across northern Luzon, with authorities suspending schools and offices in 30 provinces, including Metro Manila. Flooding, storm surges, and power outages are expected across much of Luzon.

Transport networks across East and Southeast Asia are experiencing significant disruption. In the Philippines, domestic airlines have canceled dozens of flights, while ferries remain suspended. Taiwan has canceled more than 140 flights, suspended rail services, and evacuated residents from at-risk areas. Hong Kong Airport will operate at reduced capacity Sept. 24–25, with most flights canceled. Ferry services linking Macau with Guangdong cities are suspended until further notice. Vietnam and southern China are preparing for ongoing impact later this week.
