SITUATION BRIEF

On the tails of the December protests, demonstrations are anticipated to resume on or around January 4th. The Demonstrations may result in strikes, cancellations, or transportation delays. These disruptions are expected to impact many forms of local and public transportation, including around airports, roads, and railways. Travelers in Peru should be prepared to shelter in place, if necessary, for several days. This alert extends to Cusco, Puno, and areas surrounding the Peruvian-Bolivian border as well. Please note that the U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3 advisory and urge reconsideration of travel to these areas.

ADVICE

  • Travelers abroad in Peru are strongly advised to avoid crowds and any potential demonstrations.
  •  Keep all emergency essentials on hand, including necessary medications and cash.
  • Additionally, monitor news sources for pertinent updates and comply with instructions issued by local authorities and national police.
