Ongoing Severe Weather Strikes Southern U.S.

Severe weather conditions continue to affect multiple southern states, with central Texas experiencing ongoing flash flooding and North Carolina contending with heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Chantal. Across Texas, widespread road closures, infrastructure damage, and service disruptions have been reported in several counties. Areas near the Guadalupe River saw up to 30 cm (1 foot) of rain. A major disaster declaration is in place for Kerr County, and flash flood warnings remain active as more rain is expected through July 8th.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Chantal has weakened into a tropical depression after making landfall near Myrtle Beach and is now tracking across southeastern North Carolina. It brings storm surge risks, rough surf, and an expected rainfall of 5–15 cm (2–6 inches) to North Carolina and parts of southeastern Virginia through July 7th, with an increased chance of flash flooding and isolated tornadoes.
