Nationwide labor strikes on September 18th are expected to create widespread disruption across France’s transportation network. Based on previous protests of this scale, significant disruption are likely across key sectors including transportation, education, healthcare, and public services. Severe delays are possible across rail and metro networks, including SNCF’s TGV, Intercité, TER, and Paris region Transilien services. Major disruptions are also anticipated on RATP’s Paris Metro and RER networks.
Although the main air traffic control union has postponed its strike, other airport worker unions may still participate. Additional disruptions could include taxi shortages, road blockades around major cities, and closures of schools and pharmacies. Authorities are expected to deploy thousands of police and gendarmes nationwide, and protests will likely take place in Paris and other major cities.
