Indonesia Volcanic Eruption Prompts Travel Cancellations

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores, Indonesia, erupted on June 17th, launching an ash plume nearly 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) into the atmosphere. Authorities raised the alert to the highest level and expanded exclusion zones up to 8 kilometers around the crater. Ashfall has reached nearby villages, prompting evacuations and warnings of potential lahars during heavy rainfall.

As of June 18, flight cancellations have been widespread across Bali and nearby regions, impacting Denpasar International Airport (DPS), Komodo International Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo, and several other local airports. Volcanic ash has significantly disrupted both domestic and international travel, with additional delays possible as wind conditions shift. Road travel is hazardous due to low visibility and ash accumulation - travelers are encouraged to monitor conditions closely.
