East Coast Storm Causes Travel Delays

A major storm has brought heavy rain and triggered widespread flood warnings to parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic United States. Over the weekend into Monday, areas from Georgia to the Carolinas received several inches of rain, putting over 36 million people at risk for flash flooding, strong winds, and scattered power outages. South Florida and Appalachian areas are particularly vulnerable due to saturated ground and ongoing storms.

This slow-moving system is expected to persist through Wednesday as it pulls in deep moisture from the tropics. Forecasts show more downpours ahead, particularly in the D.C. metro area and across Virginia. Miami International Airport and other hubs have reported dozens of canceled or delayed flights. Travelers should expect delays and take extra caution near rivers, streams, and flooded roadways.
