EU to Launch New Entry and Exit System
   
The European Union will launch its new Entry and Exit System (EES) on October 12th, with full implementation across 29 participating countries expected by April 2026. The EES replaces manual passport stamping with a digital system that records the entry and exit of all non-EU travelers, including those under visa waiver programs. Business and frequent travelers should expect additional checks as biometric data (fingerprints and facial images) will be collected and stored electronically. Automated border gates at major airports and land crossings will gradually speed up processing, but delays may occur during the initial transition period. 

The EES will strictly monitor compliance with the 90/180-day rule, automatically tracking travel days within the Schengen Area. Overstays may result in fines, entry bans, or future visa restrictions. Airlines will also be required to submit passenger data in advance, making it essential for travelers to ensure their documents are valid and consistent with airline records. Frequent travelers are advised to plan carefully to avoid exceeding stay limits and allow additional time at border control as the new system rolls out.

  • Expect delays and disruptions in transportation as program is implemented
  • Save time at counters by checking in through your airline's app or online portal.
  • Keep important documents and essentials in carry-on bags.
  • Passports must remain valid for at least six months.
