Tropical Storm Imelda is tracking north across the Atlantic Ocean late September 28th, with its center located southeast of the Bahamas. Forecast models show the system passing just east of New Providence, Bahamas overnight before strengthening further. Imelda is expected to intensify into a Category 1 hurricane by September 30th while paralleling Florida’s Atlantic coast, before turning east - away from the southeastern U.S. The storm is projected to make a close approach to Bermuda early October 2nd, with a possibility of strengthening before moving into open waters.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Humberto remains a strong Category 4 storm southeast of Bermuda, generating dangerous surf and rip currents along the US East Coast. Forecasters warn the two storms may interact through the Fujiwhara effect, which could alter their tracks or intensify conditions. Authorities in the Bahamas have issued widespread tropical storm warnings for New Providence, Abaco, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, and the Berry Islands. Evacuation advisories are in effect, with shelters opened across key islands.
