Smoke from hundreds of active wildfires in Ontario, Canada continues to reduce air quality and affect travel across portions of Canada and the United States. Air quality alerts remain in effect across parts of the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Northeast, including areas of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. While wildfire activity remains concentrated along Ontario-Minnesota border, shifting wind patterns are carrying dense smoke into several major metropolitan areas, creating hazy conditions and reducing visibility for travelers.
Travelers should anticipate transportation disruptions as wildfire conditions evolve. Poor visibility and degraded air quality may contribute to delays for flights arriving at or departing from airports serving affected cities, while changing fire conditions have prompted campground closures, evacuations, and restricted access to portions of Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
- Monitor local news for weather related updates & follow all official directives.
