Typhoon Dujuan is affecting eastern Japan as it moves north toward the country’s main island, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, rough seas and an increased risk of flooding and landslides. More than 300 domestic and international flights have been canceled at Haneda Airport (HND) and Narita International Airport (NRT), with additional delays and cancellations expected through Sept. 22. Rail services have also been suspended on multiple lines in and around Tokyo, while road closures have been reported in Kanagawa and Chiba. Ferry services in Tokyo Bay and to the Izu Islands have also been canceled.
Travelers should anticipate continued transportation disruptions across eastern Japan. Landslide and heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect across Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba, while high-wave warnings extend across several coastal regions. Evacuation orders and warnings have also been issued in parts of Oshima, Tateyama, and Miura affecting nearly two million people across multiple prefectures and leaving more than 50,000 households without power. Additional disruptions to transportation, utilities and emergency services remain possible as authorities respond to flooding, landslides and other weather-related hazards.
