AssistAlert: Hurricane Isaias Nears U.S. Gulf Coast

10/09/2026

Hurricane Isaias is tracking northward across the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to approach the northern U.S. Gulf Coast through October 10. The storm has strengthened into a major Category 3 hurricane and is forecast to bring damaging winds, life-threatening storm surge, heavy rainfall, coastal flooding, and possible tornadoes across portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Hurricane, tropical storm, and storm surge warnings remain in effect across parts of the region, while evacuation orders have been issued for several coastal communities in the Florida Panhandle.

Travelers should anticipate significant transportation disruptions across the central Gulf Coast through the weekend. Airport closures have been announced at Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) and Pensacola International Airport (PNS), while additional flight delays, cancellations, and schedule changes remain possible throughout the region. Flooding, storm surge, downed trees, and strong winds could create hazardous road conditions, localized road closures, and disruptions to air and maritime travel. Widespread power outages and communications disruptions are also possible, while heavy rainfall may bring additional travel delays to parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast later this weekend.

  • Monitor local news for weather-related updates and follow all official directives.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel in storm-affected regions.
  • Prepare a three-day supply of provisions and non-perishables.
  • Confirm all transport reservations.
