Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia erupted late October 14th through early October 15th. Authorities raised the volcano’s alert status to Level 4—the highest on Indonesia’s four-tier scale. In response, Frans Seda Maumere Airport (MOF) has suspended operations through at least October 16th, with potential disruptions at other airports, including Komodo International (LBJ), Gewayantana (LKA), and Lombok International (LOP), depending on wind direction and ash movement.
No injuries have been reported but evacuations continue in surrounding communities, with the establishment of exclusion zones within 6–7 km (3.7–4.3 miles) of the crater. Travelers in or planning to travel through East Nusa Tenggara should expect possible flight cancellations and delays. Residents and travelers are advised to stay clear of affected areas and remain cautious of potential volcanic mudflows (lahars) during heavy rainfall.
