Port-au-Prince's International Airport Closes

Assist Alert: Port-au-Prince International Airport Closes

July 7, 2021

Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti has been closed until further notice following the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. Flights previously scheduled to land in the capital have been either canceled or redirected. The Dominican Republic has also announced the closure of the land border with Haiti until further notice.

A heavy security presence has been reported in the area of the Presidential residence as well as in Port-au-Prince where protests are taking place. There is potential for protests to turn violent in the capital and nationwide. Ground travel and business disruptions are likely near all protests. The U.S. Embassy has closed until further notice and more embassy closures are likely in the coming hours.

  • Monitor local developments and maintain close communication with family and friends at home as well as with your diplomatic representation.
  • Avoid all protests, large public gatherings, and concentrations of security force personnel.
  • Consider sheltering in place and avoiding all unnecessary travel.
  • Reconfirm the status of road routes, flights, and the border crossing with the Dominican Republic before travel. If you encounter a roadblock, turn around and get to a safe area.
