SITUATION BRIEF

As the number of COVID-19 cases topped the 1 million-mark on Thursday, April 2nd, 93% of the world population (or 7.2 billion people) is now affected by travel restrictions and isolation measures. According to border closure analysis conducted by the Pew Research Center and the United Nations, roughly 3 billion people (39%) live in countries that have shut their borders completely to non-citizens and non-residents.

Consequently, in the last few weeks, most of us have had to drastically adapt to a new lifestyle and work environment, requiring to be isolated from family, friends, and coworkers. Some have had to quickly get set up to work from home. In worst cases, others have been furloughed and have applied for unemployment. Parents around the world are now home schooling their children to the best of their abilities. The elderly and those with pre-existing conditions are more isolated than ever. And, finally, healthcare and other essential workers and their families, more so than everyone else, have been asked to take incredible risks to help keep the world go round.

Because this COVID-19 isolation is a not a sprint, but a marathon, our objective is to continue sharing helpful tips and resources, important travel updates, and uplifting content to help you stay safe and healthy, and make the best of these challenging times.
